To rev up your engines, you must first have a goal. Something that gets you fired up to jump out of bed in the morning. Goals can exist on many levels. It could be an “in-the-moment goal” to clean out your closet or go for a walk or run; “a loftier goal” to meet Mr. or Ms. Right or start a new career and increase your revenue; or “a magnanimous goal” such as healing world hunger or saving the Brazilian rainforest. It takes tenacity to sustain a dream, and that comes from passion. It’s true that fear is a big motivator; but if you’re doing something out of fear, you will not be inspired to stick with it in the long run. Passion outlasts all fear and keeps you coming back for more.
Sometimes even the most motivated individuals need someone to keep them on track with difficult or challenging goals. It’s also vital to create a support system of people you can come to for inspiration, wisdom and accountability. Make sure you choose and surround yourself with people who support your ideals, goals and lifestyle. Negative energy can easily seep in and create fear. This low frequency can destroy your dreams and goals if you’re not careful and aware.
- State your goals out loud to someone close to you that you can trust.This proclamation of intention is a commitment to yourself, to your support system (friends, colleagues, only positive influences, OK?), that you are already in the process of attaining this goal. - Make yourself accountable on this new path. Accountability and support will keep you honest with yourself and help you stick with your promise and your plan.
- Hire a life coach or mentor who will help you connect with your dreams and create a winning plan to bring them into your reality. A coach will keep you accountable to your commitments, as well as support and motivate you to make it happen.
